WEEK 10 – With the heat hitting NE Florida, we’re not doing much. Bella still goes to work a few times a week, to see Aunt Elaine, shopping, etc. But that dark, black coat and this heat do not mix whatsoever!
St. Augustine Beach had their annual “Flip Flop ‘Til You Drop” event on Saturday with funds supporting K9s For Warriors. It was expected to hit 100* and it really felt like it. Harbaugh, Victory and Bella ended up hanging out in the pool area (as in shooting pool, not swimming) in Dunes Cracker House.
Barbara had a laser temperature gun which showed the sand outside the restaurant (where the KFW tent was) at 130* and higher. Way, way too hot for the pups.
Bella had fun seeing her “boyfriend” Harbaugh and her buddy Victory. She enjoyed making lots of friends, but was so very glad to sit in front of the a/c vents in the truck!
Bella has made awesome progress with “Wait.” She is now not coming out of her kennel until I tell her it’s ok. Using the “wait” command, she (impatiently) sits and waits while her 2 foster sisters get their bite of chicken liver in the mornings before getting hers.
She’s also had progress with allowing Durdles to be near her and not automatically deciding it’s play time and “Pounce on the Cat” time! This is slower than wait because Durdles won’t sit still for Momma to help teach.
Next week’s blog will have more activities because we not only have our monthly puppy class (where we will tramatize the shoppers in Publix) but will be going to Pussers Caribbean Grill in Ponte Vedra where another fund raising event will be happening. The hard thing with events like this is that people don’t look down so they don’t see Bella when she’s right next to me.
Before the week’s photos…
A new class arrived at Camp K9 today. an all female class. The staff and dogs are ready to help them on their journey to combat PTSD.
